Sport motorcycles are built for high engine speeds and hard braking. As a result, their components work harder than those of a daily commuter, so scheduled maintenance should never be postponed.
Change the oil at the manufacturer's interval and use the specification recommended in the owner's manual. Replace the oil filter on schedule as well, because a saturated filter lets dirt circulate back through the engine.
Most sport bikes are liquid-cooled. Check the coolant level in the reservoir when the engine is cold, and do not top up with plain water: it offers no corrosion protection and has a lower boiling point.
Correct tire pressure has a big effect on stability in corners. Check pressure when the tires are cold, inspect tread depth, and clean and lubricate the chain regularly.
Check the battery condition, especially if the bike is rarely used. A spark plug with worn electrodes makes the engine hard to start and wastes fuel.
Use genuine spare parts. Sport bike components are built to very tight tolerances. Genuine parts preserve precision and safety, especially for brakes, chains, and ignition components.
